Swing Dance

In the Swing Dance beginner course we'll take you from complete beginner status through to ready to dance socially, in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. You'll learn a range of dances from the 1920s and 30s including the Charleston and Lindy Hop - both hugely popular, energetic and danced weekly around the world.
 
Cast your mind back to 1920's New York. It's the hottest place on the planet, and the hottest thing in New York is Swing Dancing. New York has “The Great Gatsby”, prohibition, flapper dancers and gangster outfits, pearls and big bands, and Swing Dancing every night of the week in the biggest ballrooms in Harlem. Swing Dancing is partner social dancing. It's fast paced, energetic, athletic, and improvised on the fly often to live Jazz music. The international swing dance community is intensely social, welcoming and inclusive.
 
We assume no prior knowledge of dance - absolute beginners welcome. You don't need a partner, just come as you are, and bring your friends. Wear comfortable shoes and loose casual clothing. You’ll be up and dancing from the first lesson and then continue to build on technique and moves from there.

Not keen on dance classes? Don't like working out at gyms? Then come and try a swing dance inspired exercise class and experience a joyful new way to fitness!
Available for 4 weeks starting Tuesday 14 March, SwingTrain is a high-intensity dance cardio workout inspired by the joyful, energetic sounds of Charleston, Swing, Gospel, Rhythm & Blues, Electro Swing, and Hot Jazz. These total-body exercise classes are suitable for all levels and the music is so infectious that you won’t even realise you’re burning over 500 calories an hour! We will lead you through a series of fun, follow-along moves and interactive choreography guaranteed to get you sweating and smiling.
