FEATURE: The Black Mountain Battle begins this Friday as ANU take on UC

After a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are pleased to announce that the Black Mountain Battle is back for 2020, albeit in a slightly modified format.

ANU go up against old foes the University of Canberra across three days, spanning two weeks, in order to find out which University can claim to be top of the sports this year. Can ANU retain their crown or will UC steal the glory?

Action will commence at UC on Thursday 24 September with Mixed Touch and Women’s Netball, the events forming part of the Canberra InTRIvarsity contest in which the Australian Catholic University are also competing. The results from then ANU-UC battles will count towards the Black Mountain Battle total.

Twenty-four hours later and UC will host Open Table Tennis, Men’s Football and Mixed Netball as the series kicks into gear.

The competition will be concluded on Thursday 8 October and Friday 9 October on home soil at ANU with Men’s and Women’s Volleyball and Mixed Ultimate on the former day, and Men’s Basketball and Open Badminton bringing the head-to-head an end to what will no doubt be a dramatic conclusion a day later.

“We are delighted that we can bring the Black Mountain Battle back after its postponement earlier in the year,” ANU Sport’s Jesamine Wheeler, Sport Coordinator – Representative Sport commented.

“The competition has been immensely popular since its inception and it always brings out the best in our athletes who are keen to get one over their close rivals from the University of Canberra.

“As with our Canberra InTRIvarsity competition, spectators will be allowed to come and follow their teams in action as long as they comply with social distancing restrictions, contact tracing and hygiene protocols which will be in place for the events.”
