Women’s Self Defence Course

Women’s Self Defence Classes

ANU Sport welcomes women to participate in a specially designed self-defence program. 

This hands on program is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and will teach practical skills in self-defence. 

Throughout the four-hour workshop, students will learn:
• Simple but effective physical escape techniques
• Safety and awareness,
• Group discussion on safety tips

These tips will enable participants to defend themselves in situations where they feel their personal safety is at risk. It is designed to cater for women all ages, fitness levels and body types.

The instructors
The course is professionally run by two of ANU’s most experienced martial arts Instructors. 
• Charlene Harris is a 4th Degree Black Belt in taekwon-do and owns and runs the ANU’s taekwon-do school right here on campus. Charlene has been teaching taekwon-do and self-defense to women for 14 years. 
• Guy Pedashenko, who is a 2nd Degree Black Belt Instructor at the ANU Taekwon-Do Club, ably assists Charlene to demonstrate just how easy it is to learn how to defend yourself against a male aggressor. 
Between them they have over 40 years of martial arts experience and have both represented Australia internationally.
