The Eastern University Games (EUG) is the largest of the three regional university games held simultaneously across Australia for Australian tertiary students. In 2012 the sports contested were AFL 9s, Basketball, Football, Futsal, Golf (individual), Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby League 7s, Rugby Union 7s, Squash (singles), Tenpin Bowling, Tennis (singles), Touch, Ultimate and Volleyball. The EUG are held in different locations around NSW and the ACT with some previous venues being Tamworth, Canberra, Wollongong, Coffs Harbour, and Bathurst.
Since its inception in 1993, the Australian University Games (AUG) has grown to be Australia's largest annual multi sport event. Held each September/October, the Games are renowned for providing a friendly but competitive environment for Australian university athletes and is the flagship event on many national university sporting calendars. The games are recognised as a perfect opportunity to provide university athletes, many of whom are of Olympic standard, to compete against each other in a national multi sport event. As such, the games have built up a reputation as a not to be missed event attracting over 6000 participants each year. Off the sporting field, an action-packed, week-long social program is conducted to complement the sporting activities and enhance the event experience for participants.
