Group Fitness Classes

ANU Sport boasts an extensive and diverse Group Fitness Timetable  with a variety of classes to suit any fitness level. These classes can be accessed by any fitness centre member, with a casual visit pass or 10 pack! Find out about each class in the section below. 

Led by our energetic highly qualified instructors, ANU Sport offers the latest Les Mills classes such as RPM, BodyPump and Sh'bam to name a few. We also offer 5 unique programs: Circuit, Functional Fitness, Tactical Fitness, Female Tactical Fitness and Strength and Flexibility that are driven by our personal trainers.

BODYBALANCE™ is the Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates workout that builds flexibility and strength and leaves you feeling centered and calm. Controlled breathing, concentration and a carefully structured series of stretches, moves and poses to music create a holistic workout that brings the body into a state of harmony and balance. L


BODYPUMP® is the original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. This 60-minute workout challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight room exercises like Squats, Presses, Lifts and Curls. Get the results you came for - and fast! M - H


BODYATTACK® is the sports-inspired cardio workout for building strength and stamina. This high-energy interval training class combines athletic aerobic movements with strength and stabilisation exercises. Go from the weekend athlete to the hardcore competitor. M - H


RPM™ is the indoor cycling workout where you ride to the rhythm of powerful music. Take on the terrain with your inspiring team coach who leads the pack through hills, flats, mountain peaks, time trials and interval training. Discover your athlete within – sweat and burn to reach your endorphin high. M - H


Featuring simple but seriously hot dance moves, SH'BAM® is the perfect way to shape up and let out your inner star - even if dance isn't your natural thing.SH'BAM® is the ultimate fun and sociable way to exercise. M


Is a 30 minute workout that embraces the fundamentals of high-intensity interval training - the hottest trend on the planet! The series includes three workouts encompassing STRENGTH, PLYO and CARDIO.


BOXFIT is a high intensity full body workout. Using traditional boxing techniques and fitness building exercises, participants work in pairs through a series of boxing combinations and strengthening exercises. All equipment is provided and you don’t need to bring a partner. So come along and BOXFIT! M - H


Functional Activ8 is a gentle physical activity program suitable for anyone who hasn't done any exercise in a while. Exercise at your own pace with a combination of freestyle activities and gym work. Classes incorporated basic human movements that replicate those used in everyday life. Suitible for older adults and most capabilities. L


FUNCTIONAL FITNESS is an integrated program designed for the individual who wishes to maintain or improve strength, balance and flexibility. Our program is built from a foundation of load bearing activities, supplemented with low impact and proprioceptively enriched exercises. These exercises closely mirror basic human movement patterns and metabolic demands which the older adult faces in everyday life. L


TACTICAL FITNESS is a unique training system designed to develop power, muscular strength and endurance, balance and metabolic conditioning through the use of a variety of non-traditional modalities. Kettle bells, ropes, sandbags, gymnastics rings and medicine balls are just a few of the tools used to implement this program which ultimately conditions the individual to meet the unexpected challenges that occur in sport and life. H


CIRCUIT classes, utilsing our innovative functional training equipment, provide resistance training with aerobic conditioning to give you an efficient and effective workout in a short period of time. A circuit class involves individually rotating through a number of exercise stations led by our accredited instructors. Classes run for 45 minutes and are a great lunchtime or after uni work out! M


CIRCUIT CORE classes are for those who want targeted core training in order to improve their strength, flexibility and posture. Classes follow a traditional circuit style format however, they place a greater emphasis on exercises aimed at increasing core stability, activation and control. Each class utilises a variety of training modalities including body weight and resistance based exercises specifically aimed at improving the recruitment of core muscles. M


Flexbility and Joint Mobility are an important part of overall fitness. The Functional Mobility and Flexbility class is designed to help individuals improve these components through dynamic and static stretching, self mobilization of soft tissue and gentle joint distraction. L - M


Suitable for novice and returning students alike, ANU Sport's Yoga classes will take you through the fundamentals of Yoga practice. The class content is structured to counter the stresses that each new season places on our minds and bodies. Each new class builds on your knowledge, starting with a brief talk; flowing into a short relaxation and then easing into physical exercises  L

Pilates mat work focuses on mobility, core strength, posture and body awareness. Pilates can assist in strengthening for injury prevention as well as postural and pelvic floor issues.

Important Reminders Please read before attending our group fitness classes.
  • To ensure your safety, no admittance to any class 5 minutes after the due start time. Participants who arrive after this time (once the warm up is completed) will be refused entry.
  • Always visit reception or group fitness kiosk prior to attending your desired class to get a class receipt. This will then be collected by the instructors.
  • Keep an eye on the Group Fitness whiteboard in reception for instructor and class changes that may occur throughout the year
  • Wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Athletics shoes and loose clothing is advised.
  • Towels are required for all group fitness classes and the fitness centre
  • Please replace all equipment after use.
  • Drink appropriate fluids before, during and after the class.
