It took a while but here are the 2020 Blues Awards winners!


The ANU Sport Blues Awards are held annually to recognise the outstanding sporting excellence for ANU students and ANU Sport members. The awards encompass 16 different categories for individuals, teams and clubs, with two of the awards (Full Blue and Half Blue) being recognised internationally as the most prestigious sporting award for university students, a tradition dating back to 1829.

2020 was a challenging year for sport with the COVID-19 pandemic prohibiting the majority of local, national and international competitions and events. A typical year of Blues Awards can see anywhere from 30-50 award recipients, however due to the shutdown period for all sport, there was only a small cohort of participants viable for the 2020 awards.

Despite the pandemic impact on sport, ANU Sport were committed to recognise those participants where possible. A total of 13 recipients were awarded for the 2020 ANU Sport Blues Awards as follows:

Best Individual Performance of the Year – Kathryn Ross
Best Team Performance of the Year – ANU Boat Club Indoor Rowing
Club Athlete of the Year – Kathryn Ross
Club Team of the Year – ANU Women’s Hockey CL1
Coach of the Year – Wally Gaynor
Volunteer of the Year – Angeline Gonzales
Most Improved Club of the Year – ANU Cheerleading Club
Small Club of the Year – ANU Ultimate Club
Club of the Year – ANU Boat Club


Congratulations to all our recipients for their achievements in what was a difficult year for sport and the entire community.
