Meet Zoe: National Women's U19 Cycling Champion

“I am very proud to be part of the Australian Team and am looking forward to travelling, training and racing with the other Australian athletes.”

In only a few weeks’ time, ANU undergraduate student and ANU Sport staff member Zoe Cuthbert will be cycling with Trek-Shimano Australia in the UCI MTB World Championships in Mt Saint-Anne, Canada! Having competed in a variety of international tournaments and competitions over the years, Zoe has most recently taken out the National Championships and been competing in South Africa.

Zoe’s training is extremely varied – a mixture of using the ANU Sport Fitness Centre and group fitness classes, all-day and overnight rides, technical and skills training, and more. Balancing training and competing with her working and studying commitments is a challenge, but a rewarding one!

“For me, financial support means two things: firstly that I do not have to work as many hours to afford the trip, which means that I can train more, and secondly I do not have to stress about how I am going to afford the trip in the first place, which makes it so much easier to training effectively.”

Zoe will be joined on her travels by her mum Tara, an ANU alumna and ANU Mountaineering Club member, who will be competing in the Masters World Championships the week before – we wish them both the very best of luck and safe travels!
